Greyhound coaches, USI alums reflect on Lewis' passing

INDIANAPOLIS-  University of Indianapolis basketball coaches LeAnn Freeland and Stan Gouard, both alums of the University of Southern Indiana, offered condolences after the tragic death of USI player Jeron Lewis, who passed away Thursday night.

"The passing of Jeron Lewis is tragic and incomprehensible," Freeland said. "My thoughts and prayers are with his family, his teammates, coaches and the entire USI community."

"I am shocked and saddened by this news that Jeron passed away," Gouard said. "We all will miss seeing him making fantastic plays on the hardwood.  I know God will see everyone through this trying time.  My thoughts and prayers are with Jeron, his family and teammates during this difficult time.  This is a terrible tragedy that is much felt throughout the USI community and the Great Lakes Valley Conference. May you rest in peace, Jeron."

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Jeron Lewis and the USI athletics department," UIndy Director of Athletics Dr. Sue Willey said.  "The worst nightmare for any of us in athletics administration is the death of a student-athlete. Everyone carries a heavy heart after Jeron's life was taken much too quickly."

UIndy will observe a moment of silence in memory of Lewis prior to Saturday night's men's game against Lewis University.
