Greyhound throwers impressive at Cedarville Invitational

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The UIndy men's and women's track and field teams had impressive showings at the Cedarville Invitational on Friday (Jan. 15) as the men's squad placed third and the women fourth in the team standings behind strong performances by throwers from both genders.

On the men's side, the Greyhounds took seven of the top eight positions in the men's weight throw with Matt Royer winning the event with a fieldhouse-record toss of 58' 6".  Craig Myers also eclipsed the fieldhouse record with a mark of 57' 2 1/4" on his way to a second place finish.  Noah Huffman and Nicko Peebles placed fourth and fifth in the event with throws of 52' 9 1/4" and 51' 10 1/2", respectively.

The Indianapolis men also dominated the shot, taking the top four placements and five of the top seven with Shane Wyant leading the way with an event-winning attempt of 48' 7 1/4".  Joshua Bridwell placed second for the Hounds, tossing the shot 46' 3 1/4", while Dustin Gilpatrick was third with a toss of 45' 6 1/4" and Seth Galloway fourth at 43' 10 1/2".

In the running events, Michael Landy paced the Greyhounds with a solid fifth place finish in the mile run with a time of 4:29.07, while Mark Martinez was 11th in 4:34.41.

The UIndy women were just as impressive in the throwing events, as the Greyhounds capture four of the first five spots in the weight throw.  Courtney Kuzmicz won the event with a throw of 52' 2 1/2", bettering teammate Amanda Hozan, who place second, with a mark of 47' 4 1/2".  Megan Wolfe was fourth for the Hounds at 41" 4 1/2" and Caitlin Gannaway fifth with a throw of 38" 10 1/2"

Kuzmicz won her second event of the meet in the shot put, taking top honors after a heave of 38' 10 1/4".  Kathleen Watson finished second in the event for UIndy, tossing the shot 37' 10 1/2".  Rounding out the scoring performances in the shot for Indianapolis was Gannaway who placed sixth at 34' 10 1/2".

The Greyhound track and field teams will be back in action on January 23 when they travel to Wabash College for the Little Giant Invitational.  The meet is slated to begin at Noon.
