WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Greyhound wrestling team produced an individual champion and a top five placement at the Roger Denker Open, hosted by the University of Central Missouri in action on Sunday (Jan. 17).

Shelby Mappes claimed the individual title in the 174-pound bracket for the Greyhounds.  Mappes dominated his competition through the first three matches, pinning his opening-round opponent, Darnell Bortz, in 3:36 before earning another fall at the 1:35 mark over Tracer Hudson in his second bout.  The Greenwood native then claimed at 11-3 major decision over Central Missouri's Matt Bailes before winning the championship match with by a 4-0 count over Jon Newbold.

The other placement for Indianapolis came from David Lopez who placed fourth at 149.  Lopez won his first two bouts of the afternoon with 9-2 and 5-3 decisions before falling to eventual champion Scott O'Donnell in his third-round matchup.  Lopez rebounded and earned his way into the third-place match with a 4-3 decision over Raufeon Stots, before ending his event with a loss to Cody Farinella by a 4-1 count.

The UIndy wrestling squad will return to the mats next Saturday (Jan. 23) when they travel to Crawfordsville, Ind. to compete in the Monon Bell Duals, hosted by Wabash College.  Action is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.
