INDIANAPOLIS-  In a battle of ranked and undefeated Great Lakes Valley Conference teams, the fourth-ranked UIndy women's basketball team earned a convincing 80-52 over No. 12 Quincy Saturday afternoon at Nicoson Hall. The outcome was not only a big win with regional implications, but it also upped the Greyhounds' record to a perfect 11-0 to match the program record for most wins to start a season.

The Greyhounds (11-0, 2-0 GLVC) held the conference's top-scoring team to 30 points below its season average while out-rebounding the Lady Hawks by a near 2:1 margin.

The game started with a frantic pace, as both teams got up and down the floor.  The Greyhounds jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead.  Six of those points came on two possessions as Jessica Canary drove baseline and ultimately completed a 3-point play before the next trip down when Cayla Keegan drained one from distance.

The Lady Hawks (11-1, 2-1) quickly tied it at eight, however, with a few defensive stops and three straight lay-ups.

UIndy retook the lead when Samantha Meissel hit a triple as the shot clock expired.  Indianapolis stayed in front the remainder of the half, thanks largely to a 14-3 rally from the home team.  The Hounds held the normally-potent Lady Hawks' offense without a field goal for seven of the final eight minutes of the half to take a 39-23 advantage into the locker room.

The likelihood of the first-half outburst took a hit when UIndy-leading-scorer Meissel picked up her second foul with 12-and-a-half minutes to play, but Canary, her all-conference teammate, took it upon herself to shoulder the load.  The Coatesville, Ind. native poured in a game-high 14 points in the first 20 minutes while sinking 3-of-5 from 3-point range.

Out of the break, the Hawks tried a 2-3 zone to negate the Greyhounds' frontcourt height advantage.  The visitors kept the margin in the teens through the half's opening 10 minutes before a three from junior Hillary Wenning with 9:54 left made it 57-37 UIndy.

The deficit would not get any lower, as the Hounds cruised to the 28-point win.  UIndy shot 17-for-19 from the foul line and out-rebounded the visitors 49-25.

Canary finished with 19 points and nine rebounds, just missing her third double-double of the year.  Meissel scored 16, Heather Rourk added a season-high 12 points, and Cayla Keegan and Sarah Fenneman each grabbed seven boards.

UIndy remains at home to face GLVC-newcomer Illinois-Springfield Monday, Jan. 4.  Tip time from Nicoson Hall is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., with the men's game to follow.

Note: In her first season at UIndy in 2007-08, Head Coach LeAnn Freeland guided the Greyhounds to an 11-0 record, a program record matched by this year's team.
