CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Greyhound men's and women's track teams had an impressive showing at the Little Giant Invitational, hosted by Wabash College, on Saturday, breaking five meet records on their way to nine event wins.

For the women, the UIndy relay teams were the story of the day, as both the 4-x-200 meter relay and 4-x-400 meter relay teams established new meet records.

The team of Kierra Allen, Deltarae Martin, Shanese McGregor, and Saidat Sanuth bested the rest of the 4-x-200 meter relay field in a time of 1:44.85, breaking the former record by nearly five seconds. The 4-x-400 meter relay squad of Christina Carrick, Madelyn Jerome, Haley Miller, and Kaitlin Worthington took top honors in a meet-record time of 4:06.07, over eight seconds faster than the previous record mark of 4:14.30.

On the track, the Greyhounds garnered four second-place finishes and a pair of three-place efforts.  Runner-up placements for Indianapolis included Kenya Owens in the 400-meter dash (1:02.78), LeAnne Winterrowd in the mile run (5:40.91), Krista Leffers in the 55-meter hurdles (9.47), and Katherine Wilhelm in the 3000-meter run (10:36.85).  Valerie Wagner finished the meet with third-place finishes in the 55-meter dash (7.53) and 200-meter dash (27.39).

The UIndy women had a strong showing off the track as well, as Kathleen Watson was the lone individual winner for the women, tossing the shot put 39' 9 1/4" to take top honors.

Courtney Kuzmicz placed second in both the shot put and the weight throw with tosses of 39' 04" and 50' 4 3/4", while Rachal Robertson complete her day with a runner-up placement in the long jump with a leap of 16' 1 1/2" and a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 32' 0".

Other top performers for Indianapolis included third-place efforts by Brittany Wells in the pole vault (9' 1/4"), Bethany Schroeder in the long jump (16' 1") and Amanda Hozan in the weight throw (47' 10 1/2").

Not to be outdone, the UIndy men recorded three meet records of their own, with two of them coming on the track and another in a field event.

Frederick Helm broke the meet record in the 200-meter dash on his way to winning the event with a time of 22.26 seconds and was a member of the meet record breaking 4-x-200 meter relay squad that included teammates Carl A. Smith, Nick Brittain, and Jermel Flournoy and won the event in 1:30.44, besting the previous mark of 1:32.59.

Other top performances on the track for the Hounds included a trio of third-place finishes by Flournoy in the 200-meter dash (22.52), Mark Martinez in the 3000-meter run (8:58.31), and the 4-x-400 meter relay team of Benjamin Bertoli, Jermel Kindred, Terrell Franklin, and Kyle Thompson (3:35.33).

The final meet record performance for UIndy came in the shot put, as Matt Royer won the event with a toss of 51' 1".  Royer also took top honors in the weight throw after a heave of 57' 9 1/2".

Randall Hudi and Braden Miller were winners for Indianapolis, with Hudi winning the long jump with a mark of 21' 11" and Miller the high jump after clearing the bar at 6' 2 3/4".

Franklin earned another top-three finish with his second-place effort in the long jump with a mark of 21' 10 3/4", while fellow relay member Bertoli placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 41' 3 3/4".

Rounding out the top finshes for the Greyhounds were Joshua Bridwell and Shane Wyant who finished second and third in the shot put with tosses of 49' 1" and 48' 5 1/4" and Craig Myers and Noah Huffman who placed second and third in the weight throw, an event in which UIndy captured the top seven spots, after marks of 55' 3/4" and 53' 11 3/4".

The Greyhound track and field teams will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Indiana Wesleyan for the IWU Track and Field Invitational.
