SOMERS, Wis.- The UIndy men's hoops team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 75-66 win against Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday afternoon. A 31-point effort from junior transfer
Darius Adams combined with 50-percent shooting for UIndy fueled the Greyhound win.
The Greyhounds (11-10, 5-7 GLVC) held Wisconsin-Parkside scoreless for almost three minutes to open the game, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead behind a three from
Ryan Sims, a jumper from Adams and a pair of
DeWann Squires free throws.
UIndy held control of the game throughout the rest of the first period, leading by as many 15. The Greyhounds took a 12-point advantage, 38-26, into the halftime break.
The Rangers came out of the intermission with a 13-4 run to pull within three, 42-39, with about 16 minutes to play. A tip-in from Squires, followed by a pair of three-balls from Sims pushed UIndy back into the comfortable lead.
Wisconsin-Parkside continued to claw its way back into the game, taking its first lead 53-52 with 10:10 left on the clock. The lead would go back-and-forth by a single point for the next seven minutes before a Squires basket put the Greyhounds back up by three, 65-62.
A dunk from
Larry Woods with just less than two minutes left put UIndy up by five, prompting a Ranger timeout. Four free throws from Adams, and another two from Sims down the final stretch iced the 75-66 win for the Greyhounds.
Adams finished his day with a game-high 31 points and eight rebounds. Sims had 14 points for the Greyhounds, while Squires finished with 10 points and eight boards. UIndy shot 51 percent from the field in the win.
Grant Johnson led the Rangers' effort with 29 points.
UIndy returns to the Nicoson Hall hardwood for a pair of GLVC contests this weekend, hosting Rockhurst Thursday evening and Drury Saturday afternoon.
