COMPLETE RESULTS
MARION, Ind. - The UIndy men's and women's track teams set four meet records at the Indiana Wesleyan Track and Field Invitational on Saturday, highlighted by a track record by the women's 4-x-400 meter relay squad of
Shanese McGregor,
Deltarae Martin,
Haley Miller, and
Kierra Allen.
In addition to the track and meet record time of 3:58.76 posted by the women's 4-x-400 meter relay team, the men's 4-x-400 meter relay squad of
Nick Brittain,
Jerel Flournoy,
Frederick Helms, and
Carl A Smith also established a new meet record, winning the event in a time of 3:24.06.
Other meet records broken by the Greyhounds included the men's distance medley team of
Kyle Fager,
Mark Martinez,
Ian O'Boyle, and
Michael Landy who turned in an event-winning time of 10:33.35 and UIndy thrower
Matt Royer who won the weight throw with a toss of 58' 10" eclipsing the previous meet record by over three feet.
Helms picked up the only other event win for either gender, taking top honors in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.87 seconds, just four tenths off his own meet record established in 2009.
On the women's side, Indianapolis garnered a pair of second-place finishes courtesy of
Katherine Wilhelm in the Mile run (5:18.85) and the 4-x-200 meter relay squad of
Chelsey Chang,
Rachal Robertson,
Bethany Schroeder, and
Shannon Smith (1:47.96).
Kierra Allen and
Kimberly Condra placed third in their respective events, as Allen finished the 200-meter dash in 26.07 seconds and Condra posted a mark of 2:35.73 in the 800-meter run.
Other top five finishers on the track for UIndy included a fourth-place finish by
Kaitlin Worthington in the 600-meter run (1:40.83) and fifth-place finishes by
Christina Carrick in the 600-meter run (1:40.95),
Stephanie Cave in the 5000-meter run (19:35.79),
Emily Wright in the 1000-meter run (3:36.88), and the distance medley relay consisting of
Laura Riggins,
Stephanie Kennedy,
Courtney Raypole, and
Lindsay Houvener (13:51.86).
In the field events,
Courtney Kuzmicz posted a pair of top-five finishes by placing third in the weight throw with a toss of 51' 3" and fifth in the shot put with a mark of 38' 9 3/4".
Kathleen Watson contributed to the Indianapolis effort with a third-place finish in the shot put after a heave of 40' 1 1/2".
On the track for the men, Brittain, Flournoy, and Martinez posted runner-up finishes in their individual events as Brittain posted a time of 1:21.53 in the 600-meter run, Flournoy a 22.71 second effort in the 200-meter dash, and a time of 8:55.01 in the 3000-meter run by Martinez.
Other top performers on the track for the men included
Randall Hudi who placed third in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 22.80 seconds, Smith who took third in the 600-meter run in 1:23.58, and a fourth-place effort by Landy in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.57.
In addition to Royer's record-breaking peformance in the weight throw, UIndy posted six more top five performances in the field events.
Shane Wyant placed second in the shot put after a toss of 50' 10",
Terrell Franklin third in the long jump with a jump of 23' 7 1/2", and
Branden Miller cleared the bar in the high jump at 6' 2" for third-place honors.
Rounding out the top five efforts for Indianapolis was
Noah Huffman who took fourth in the weight throw (52' 0"),
Jacob Aldrich who placed fifth in the pole vault (13' 3 1/2") and a fifth place finish by
Dustin Gilpatrick in the weight throw (51' 9 1/4").
The UIndy track and field teams will be back in action on Feb. 5 when they travel to Findlay University for the Division II Challenge. Events for the two-day event are slated to begin at 12:00 PM.
