ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The University of Indianapolis men's basketball team matched their season win total from a year ago by picking up their ninth victory of the campaign with a 106-80 victory over Great Lakes Valley newcomer Maryville University on Thursday night at Moloney Arena.
The Greyhounds crossed the century mark for the second time this season behind a career-high 37 points and a double-double from
Darius Adams. Adams finished the evening 16 of 28 from the field including two of five from behind the three-point arc and 10 rebounds.
UIndy lead from start to finish as a basket by
Nate Blank put the Greyhounds on the board first and they would never surrender the lead. Indianapolis led the Saints by as many as 19 in the first half, taking a 52-33 advantage on an Adams free throw with 2:42 left in the opening stanza and took at 59-42 lead into the break.
The Greyhounds opened the second half on a 16-2 run that was capped by a
DeWann Squires layup with 14:48 remaining in the contest and gave UIndy their largest lead of the game at 75-44. Maryville would get no closer than 20 following the Indianapolis run as the Hounds left St. Louis with the 106-80 victory.
Blank also had a double-double performance for the Greyhounds, finishing with 17 points and pulling down 10 boards, while Squires and
Sergey Struck rounded out the double-digit scorers for UIndy. Squires added 18 points of his own and Struck pitched in with 12.
The Greyhounds once again delivered a solid defense effort forcing 27 Maryville turnovers while limited them to 44% shooting from the field, including 26% from three-point range.
The win improves Indianapolis to 9-4 and 3-1 in GLVC play while the Saints fall to 2-11 and 0-4 in conference contests. UIndy will continue their road trip on Saturday as they stay in St. Louis to take on the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis at 4:00 PM before traveling to Bellarmine for an 8:00 PM tip next Thursday.
