INDIANAPOLIS- The 23rd-ranked UIndy volleyball team (20-7, 8-3 GLVC) earned a big win Friday night, holding off a tenacious Rockhurst team in a grueling five-set duel. The victory ensured UIndy's 12th consecutive 20-win season while also breaking a tie for third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings.
It looked as though UIndy would make short work of Rockhurst (20-8, 7-4) after picking up wins in sets one and two, but the visiting Hawks weren't ready to leave the Circle City just yet. Rockhurst broke a 22-22 tie in the third with a set-ending three-point rally and then proceeded to turn an 18-15 deficit into a second straight 25-22 win to force a fifth set.
The first half of the fifth frame was all UIndy, as the Hounds jumped out to a 10-5 lead, forcing an RU timeout. Out of the stoppage, it got worse for Rockhurst before it got better, as the UIndy advantage reached 14-10 in the race to 15.
Facing match point for UIndy, the Hawks survived by scoring four straight to extend the festivities. The teams traded punches and after five match points from the Hounds and one from the Hawks, Indianapolis finally put away their guests 19-17 in the clincher.

Kristina Hefferan and Rockhurst standout Maggie McGovern had quite the individual battle, as the two combined for 117 attacks and 49 kills.
