UIndy 0 - UWP 0 (2OT)
INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy women's soccer team became the first all season to hold No. 12 Wisconsin-Parkside scoreless. The Greyhounds and the Rangers battled the wind and chilly conditions at Key Stadium Sunday to a 0-0 draw. The tie runs the Greyhounds' record to
2-6-2; 2-4-2 in the GLVC.
In the first half, the Rangers got off eight shots to the Greyhounds' two. The ball spent a good amount of time in the UWP half of the field, but the strong UIndy defense was able to fend off any Ranger chances.
Each team had a couple of flurries in the box in the second 45 minutes of play, but again neither team could find the back of the net.
UWP's Shannon Becker had a shot go wide and high off of the crossbar in the fourth minute of the first overtime to mark a scary moment for the UIndy squad.
The Greyhounds had a chance with just less than two minutes on the clock in the first extra period, with
Morgan Binder taking a free kick off of a UWP foul on
Nicole Duncan. Binder took the kick from almost the same spot where she was able to score from Friday night, but the wind knocked down her chance.
Shae Morris saved the game for UIndy in the 100th minute, making a diving save on a one-v-one breakaway by the Rangers' Stephanie Barsuii.
Lauren Soza had the Greyhounds' best chance of the second overtime, as she charged a ball heading for the Ranger keeper in the 107th minute. Soza was able to get a shot off, but it went wide right of the open goal.
Binder led the UIndy offense with a pair of shots on goal. Morris made nine saves on the day in her 110 minutes of work.
The Greyhounds take to the road to continue on in GLVC play, heading to Quincy and Illinois-Springfield next weekend.
