KENOSHA, Wis. -  The Greyhound men's track and field reversed the results from last year's meet, besting defending champion Missouri S&T 171.50 to 167.50 to claim the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship crown.  Unfortunately the same reversal happened on the women's side as the UIndy women's team placed second behind Lewis University.

The Indianapolis men captured four event wins and broke three school records on their way to a team title.  Frederick Helm accounted for two of the wins and one of the school record performances, winning the 55-meter dash in a school-record time of 6.36 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 22.27 seconds.

Terell Franklin had an outstanding meet for the Hounds, leading the team in points after four top-five performances.  Franklin took top honors in the long jump with a mark of 23' 5 1/2", tied for fourth in the high jump after a leap of 6' 2 1/4", and earned a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash in 6.59 seconds.

Matt Royer contributed the final event win for UIndy, tossing the weight 62' 5" to capture the individual title.  Royer added another top-three placement with a third-place finish in the shot put after a heave of 49' 8 1/2".

A pair of relay teams accounted for the other two school-record times as the 4-x-200 meter relay of Randall Hudi, Nick Brattain, Carl A. Smith, and Jerel Flournoy crossed the tape in 1:30.02 to take second in the event.   The Greyhound distance medley relay squad of Mark Martinez, Jermel Kindred, Ian O'Boyle, and Michael Landy placed third in the event with a school-record time of 10:21.46.

The other Greyhound relay, the 4-x-400 meter squad consisting of Flournoy, Benjamin Bertoli, Brattain, and Smith, continued UIndy's string of successful relays by placing second in the event in 3:21.49.

Other top performances on the track for Indianapolis came from Smith, who placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (49.76), Landy who took fourth in the mile run (4:22.23), and Brittain who added valuable points to the UIndy effort with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (50.57).

Braden Miller and Kevin Keene set the tone for the Greyhounds early in the meet by placing second and third in the heptathlon.  Miller completed the event with 4,403 points, placing second, while Keene compiled 4,237 points for a third-place finish.

Hudi added two more top-five finishes for UIndy placing second in the long jump with a leap of 22' 11 3/4" and fourth in the triple jump after hitting the sand at the 44' 6 1/4" mark.

Other top finishes in the field events included a second-place effort from Craig Myers in the weight throw (56' 7.25"), a third-place finish by Bryan Back in the high jump (6' 6 1/4"), a fourth-place placement in the shot put (49' 2 1/4") by Shane Wyant, and a fifth-place finish by Noah Huffman in the weight throw (52' 4").

Kierra Allen led the women's team, taking top honors in four events by winning two individual events and being a part of two winning relay teams.  Allen bested the field in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, taking the former in 25.45 seconds and the latter in 58.58 seconds.

Allen was also a part of the 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 meter relay teams that captured event wins for the Greyhounds.  Saidat Sanuth, Shanese McGregor, and Deltarae Martin completed the 4-x-200 meter squad that placed first in the event in 1:42.78.  Allen joined Christina Carrick, Haley Miller, and Martin on the 4-x-400 meter relay that crossed the line in an event-winning time of 3:58.20.

The UIndy women dominated the 400-meter dash, taking the top four spots and five of the first sixth, accumulating 32 points in the event.  Miller placed second behind Allen in 59.89 seconds, while Carrick was third in 1:00.45, and Kaitlin Worthington fourth in 1:00.56.

Other top-five performances on the track for the women included Asia Cammack with a second-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles (8.94), Santuth who placed third in the 200-meter dash (25.93), McGregor with a fourth-place showing in the 55-meter dash (7.39), Shannon Smith who turned in a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (26.18), and the distance medley relay team of Courtney Raypole, Katie Hall, Kimberly Condra, and Lindsay Houvener who placed fifth (13:10.79).

Courtney Kuzmicz led the UIndy effort in the field events with a pair of top-three performances.  Kuzmicz took second in the weight throw with a mark of 54' 9 1/2" and finished third in the shot put after a toss of 38' 7 1/2".

Kathleen Watson turned in a second-place effort in the shot with a throw of 39' 8 3/4" and Krista Leffers and Amanda Hozan contributed to the Greyhound cause with third-place showings in their respective events.  Leffers accumulated a total of 2,701 points in the pentathlon while Hozan tossed the weight 47' 3 3/4".

Rounding out the top-five placements in the field events for the Indianapolis women were Valerie Wagner and Caitlin Gannaway.  Wagner leaped 17' 4" in the long jump for a fourth-place finish.  Gannaway placed fourth in the shot put after posting a mark of 38' 5".

Next up for the Greyhound track and field teams are the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships hosted by the University of New Mexico.  The two-day event will begin on March 12.
