Screaming Eagles walk off with 8-7 win

Box score

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The UIndy baseball team endured a tough loss Saturday at Southern Indiana, as the home Screaming Eagles managed a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth to earn the 8-7 win.  Down by one heading into the final inning, the Greyhounds plated the tying run but failed to keep USI off the board to split the two-game series.

On a cold and wet afternoon, the ninth started with a one-out single by Aryn Ross.  A ground ball followed to put the Hounds down to their final out, but after a wild pitch moved Ross to third, Travis Capps delivered with an opposite-field single to knot it at seven.

Yesterday's hero David Early climbed the hill for UIndy in the bottom of the ninth, but the senior reliever could not contain the Eagles (10-6, 1-1 GLVC).  Clean-up man Caleb Ehmke led off the frame with a double before Adam Enright ended the game with his fifth hit in five at bats on the day.

Capps finished with four base hits, Ross amassed three hits and three runs, while Danny Collier picked up a pair of ribbies on a sac fly in the second and a double in the four-run fifth.

UIndy (7-7, 1-1) continues GLVC play with a doubleheader at Maryville tomorrow at starting at noon.
