Russell named GLVC Softball Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - UIndy senior Megan Russell was selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week after her performance on the diamond last week that has the Greyhounds on an 11-game winning streak.

The Indianapolis native led the Hounds to a 7-0 record last week after hitting .375 with 16 RBIs.  Russell crossed the plate eight times, belted three doubles and four homers, while slugging an impressive 1.000.

After starting the week 1-for-13 in her first four games, Russell closed the week by going 8-for-11 in UIndy's wins over Clarion and Drury.

In the Greyhounds' 14-0 victory over Clarion in the final game of the Rebel Spring Games, Russell finished 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, and five RBIs.

On Sunday at Drury, she finished an impressive 6-for-7 with 12 RBIs, six runs scored, three home runs, and a double in UIndy's sweep of the Panthers.

Russell has registered multiple-hit performances in her last five outings after finishing 4-for-9 with three RBIs in a pair of victories for the Hounds over Rockhurst on Monday.

The senior first baseman and pitcher is hitting .299 on the season with 26 RBIs, 15 runs scored, eight doubles, and five home runs.  Russell leads the GLVC in RBIs, total bases (45), and pitching wins (8), while standing second in doubles and home runs.

The Greyhounds are 14-7 on the year and have rattled off 11 straight wins on their way to a 6-0 conference record.  UIndy will be back in action this weekend when they host Missouri S&T and Maryville on Saturday and Sunday.
