Three Greyhound wrestlers earn All-Academic honors; Team ranks seventh in nation

INDIANAPOLIS - In a release by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association, the University of Indianapolis wrestling team ranked seventh in the nation in team grade point average and had three members selected to individual All-Academic teams.

Lynn Panko (Avon, Ind./Avon) was selected to the All-Academic First Team after posting a GPA of 3.42 in the classroom and finishing his season with a record of 21-3.  The senior exercise science major was one of 36 student-athletes selected to the first team and one of 13 named to the team for the third time.

Sophomores Ethan Harris (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) and David Lopez (Nappanee, Ind./NorthWood) received second-team accolades after their performances on the mat and efforts in the classroom this season. 

Harris, an elementary education major, finished the season at 21-11 with a 3.37 GPA. 

Lopez is a double major in both chemistry and biology at UIndy and boasts a 3.69 GPA.  The Nappanee, Ind. native finished the season with a 27-16 mark.

Criteria for selection to the All-Academic Team included a minimum 3.00 grade point average, being a varsity team member and at least in a second full year at the wrestler's school, demonstrating a degree of skill, and having at least two letters of recommendation submitted on the wrestler's behalf.

For the team award, the Greyhounds placed seventh after a team grade point average of 3.198.  The team GPA is calculated b averaging the cumulative grade point averages of ten wrestlers from each team of wich eight those wrestlers must have competed in their team's NCAA Divsion II National Qualifying tournament.

Truman State University became the first school to win the All-Academic Team Championship for four consecutive years after posting a 3.467 team GPA.
