Women's tennis splits, now 8-2 overall

NKU 6, UIndy 3
UIndy 7, UMSL 2

The Greyhound women's tennis team split a pair of matches to open this weekend as it opened the Great Lakes Valley Conference portion of its schedule.  UIndy (8-2, 0-1 GLVC) fell 6-3 at Northern Kentucky Saturday but rebounded for a 7-2 win over Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday at home.

Saturday's defeat was the first divisional affair for UIndy as the Hounds compete in the GLVC East.  NKU (4-3, 1-0) grabbed wins at the bottom two doubles positions and the top two singles spots to garner control of the match.  Meghan Teunis defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles position and Kelsey Hartman was the other Greyhound winner in singles (No. 5).

In Sunday's action, Teunis-- who moved up to the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup-- again won with a 6-1, 6-2 victory to run her season record to 7-2.  Hartman had to battle to post her win Sunday, falling 7-5 in the opening set before scoring 6-1 and 11-9 wins at No. 5 as she remains perfect on the season in singles play (6-0).  Rachel Barger was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 6, running her season mark to 8-1 this year.  Alena Perez-Majul and Alex Covington also won their singles matches versus UMSL at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

UIndy, with five matches remaining in the regular season, will head north to face Saint Joseph's and Lewis in GLVC East battles Friday and Saturday.
