INDIANAPOLIS- The Greyhound women's tennis team put the finishing touches on its regular season with a decisive 9-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan at Center Grove High School Sunday morning. The win gives UIndy its fourth straight victory heading into the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.
The Panthers (9-8, 0-6 GLVC) did not win a single set as the Hounds (12-3, 4-2) took all three doubles spots with relative ease and then posted quick striaght-set wins in singles play. The deep UIndy lineup squandered just four games total in the bottom three singles positions as
Alex Covington,
Kelsey Hartman and
Rachel Barger assured the shutout.
The young Greyhounds, whose lineup features two juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen, have earned the third seed in the GLVC East and will face Rockhurst, the No. 2 seed in the West, in the opening round of the league championships Friday. The match is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. Eastern in Springfield, Mo. with the winner taking on the winner of Northern Kentucky/Quincy in Friday's 2:30 p.m. semifinal match.
