Butera adds to 2010 recruiting class

INDIANAPOLIS- Coming off the most successful season in program history, the UIndy volleyball team added one more to its 2010 roster, as Head Coach Jody Butera announced the signing of Kenzie Bruggeman (St. Henry, Ohio) Tuesday.  Bruggeman becomes the fifth member of Coach Butera's 2010 class, joining four early signees as freshmen this fall.

Bruggeman comes to UIndy from St. Henry High School in St. Henry, Ohio.  The 5-9 outside hitter was a three-year starter as a prep, garnering both all-district and first team all-conference accolades her final two seasons.

“Kenzie is an explosive and athletic player with great ball control,” says Butera.  “Her ability to put balls away and play six rotations is exactly what we need here at UIndy.  She comes from a winning culture, and her competitive attitude will be an asset to our program both on the court and in the classroom.”

An honor roll student at St. Henry, Bruggeman was also an all-league standout in basketball and softball.  She will join early signees Brianna Gannon, Hannah Kirk, Jaymee Reynolds and La'Voya Williams on UIndy's roster this fall.

Butera, the 2009 AVCA D-II National Coach of the Year, led UIndy to a stellar 38-2 record last season on the way to its first-ever Midwest Region title and NCAA Elite Eight appearance.
