INDIANAPOLIS- UIndy's women's basketball head coach
LeAnn Freeland supplemented her 2010 recruiting class this week with three late signees. Kaleigh Andrews (Rushville, Ind.), Diana Jovanovic (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Eliza Wortman (Germantown, Wis.) will join Freeland's five November signees as freshmen on the 2010-11 squad.
“Our staff is very excited to add Kaleigh, Diana and Eliza to our list early signees,” says Freeland. “Our 2010 recruiting class is an impressive group of eight freshmen with a lot of potential. We look forward to watching this class develop together and mesh with our seven returnees.”
Kaleigh Andrews led Rushville High School to a 25-3 record last season, capped by an appearance in the IHSAA Class 3A final. The 5-8 guard averaged 11.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game her senior year. She earned an Academic All-State nod from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) and participated in the
Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 60 workout last month.
“Kaleigh is coming to us from the very-talented 3A state runner-up Rushville High School,” adds Freeland. “She is the consummate team player who can do a little bit of everything. She's a smooth player with a knack for anticipating passes and has a high basketball IQ.”

Diana Jovanovic will graduate from Decatur Central High School this spring. She helped the Lady Hawks to a 17-5 record last season while putting up nearly 14 points and eight rebounds per contest and shooting 50 percent from the field. The 5-9 guard/forward garnered IBCA All-State Honorable Mention and, like Andrews, was one of 1,600 girls statewide to be invited to the
Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 60 workout.
Says Freeland: “Diana is a very athletic guard/forward who played post in high school. She attacks off the dribble, finds a way to get to the free throw line, and rebounds relentlessly. Her versatility and toughness will make her an asset because she can defend any position.”
Six-foot-two post player
Eliza Wortman rounds out Freeland's late signees. Wortman, the all-time leading scorer at Germantown High School, averaged 16.4 points, 8.9 boards and 4.7 blocks as a senior. She helped the Warhawks to a 17-3 mark kast year on the way to picking up Division 1 All-State Honorable Mention from both the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association and the Associated Press.
“Eliza is a multi-skilled post player with great size,” boasts her future head coach. “She runs the floor well and can attack the basket off the dribble. She has great ability blocking shots and changing shots. Even though she is already good, the exciting thing about Eliza is, with additional strength and experience, she can improve her game dramatically.”
UIndy is coming off a 26-4 campaign in 2009-10, its second-winningest season in program history. The Greyhounds earned their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance last year and were ranked No. 14 in the final USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 women's basketball poll.
