INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy baseball team celebrated its 2010 Senior Day with a season-high 22 hits in a 18-5 rout versus Wisconsin-Parkside to cap a Saturday twin bill at Greyhound Park. The Hounds also earned a 10-4 victory in the opening game, part of a four-game sweep of the visiting Rangers.
GAME 1
UIndy (31-15, 18-8 GLVC) did most of its damage in the first and second innings, scoring four runs in each of the first two frames. After using just two hits to score four unearned tallies in the first, the Hounds started to second with back-to-back-to-back extra-base hits, punctuated by a two-run homer from senior
Chase Kittinger.
Meanwhile, senior starter
Travis Capps allowed just three runs – two earned – in his 6 1/3 innings of work to notch his second win in just his third start. He now owns a 2-0 record with a tidy 1.56 ERA.
Junior
Aryn Ross scored three times, while Kittinger and
Chris Ulrey each had two hits.
GAME 2
After both teams scored single runs in their respective first innings, a hit parade ensued in the bottom of the second. Seven Greyhounds reached base before an out was recorded, as the home team eventually racked up 10 hits in the frame. The outburst produced 11 runs, including a three-run double from
Scott Mourey.
The Hounds continued to pull away with six runs over the next three innings. The UIndy fourth featured homeruns from both Kittinger and Ulrey.
Pitcher
Vince Saisi got the starting nod for the Greyhounds' final GLVC home game of the year. The senior upped his record to 3-1 by allowing four runs and six hits in five innings.
Six Hounds recorded more than one hit in game two, with four from senior
Danny Collier. Ulrey and
Kaleb Cunningham each had three runs and three RBI while Mourey drove in four.
Winners of eight straight region games, UIndy wraps up its conference slate with a four-game series at GLVC East Division-leading Northern Kentucky next weekend. Due to UIndy commencement ceremonies this Saturday, two games will be played on Friday, May 1, followed by the final two on Sunday, May 3.
Note: UIndy is ranked sixth in the latest NCAA D-II Midwest Regional Poll.
