INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy track and field teams finished the Stan Lyons Invitational with five event wins, four of them coming in field events.
Seth Galloway, Frederick Helm, Randall Hudi, Craig Myers, and
Heather Rourk all notched wins in their respective events on Saturday at Carroll Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.
Both Greyhound squads were impressive in the field events, racking up 21 top-five finishes away from the track.
Myers accounted for three top-five placements for the Hounds, winning the hammer throw with a heave of 194' 6", placing fourth in the discus with a mark of 135' 2", and using a toss of 46' 5 1/4" to take fifth in the shot put.
Galloway and
Kyle McDaniel each placed in three events as well to aid the Indianapolis effort.
Galloway took top honors in the javelin with a toss of 194' 3", besting teammate
Dustin Gilpatrick, who took second in the event by nearly 42". Galloway also placed sixth in the discus with a mark of 133' 6" and seventh in the shot put with a 44' 2 1/2" effort.
McDaniel finished the meet with a pair of third-place showings in the discus (141' 8") and hammer throw (163' 10") and an eighth-place finish in the shot put (43' 10")
Hudi earned the other field event victory for the Greyhounds, topping the field in the long jump with a leap of 23' 2 3/4"
Jonathan Mattox and
Shane Wyant each captured runner-up honors in their respective events as Mattox took second in the long jump (21' 11 1/2") and Wyant in the shot put (50' 10 1/4").
Other top performances for UIndy included a third-place finish by
Jacob Aldrich in the pole vault (14' 9"), fourth and fifth-place showings from
Nicko Peebles in the hammer throw (160' 8") and discus (133' 7"), a fourth-place effort from
Bryan Back in the high jump (6' 2"), and a fifth-place finish by
Adam Thackery in the javelin (131' 11").
Helm continued his successful season in the sprints with a victory in the 100-meter dash, breaking the tape in 10.96 seconds. His win in the event marks the fourth time this season that Helm has taken first in the 100-meter dash.
Jermel Kindred took third in the 400-meter hurdles in 53.58 seconds, while
Ben Bertoli and
Carl A Smith rounded out the top placements for Indianapolis. Bertoli placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.21 seconds and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.47 seconds, and Smith finished eighth in the 200-meter dash in 22.76 seconds.
Rourk led the UIndy women with the lone event win, capturing the javelin with a toss of 111' 9".
Kathleen Watson added a pair of runner-up efforts for the Greyhound women by placing second in the discus with a mark of 134' 4" and shot put after a heave of 38' 0".
Valerie Wagner also finished the meet with two top-five finishes, taking second in the triple jump with a leap of 34' 3/4" and hitting the sand at the 16' 4 1/4" mark in the long jump for a fifth-place finish.
Amanda Hozan, Bethany Schroeder, and
Rachal Robertson rounded out the top-fives in the field events for Indianapolis. Hozan took second in the hammer throw (146' 5"), Schroeder fourth in the triple jump (33' 2 1/2"), and Robertson placed fifth in triple jump (33' 2"). Schroeder also added a seventh-place showing in the long jump after jumping 16' 1 1/2".
Other top finishes off the track for the Greyhound women included a sixth-place finish by
Chelsey Chang in the triple jump (31' 6"),
Rachel Richman who placed seventh in the pole vault (9' 6 1/4"), a seventh-place effort by
Erica Blackburn in the high jump (4' 10 1/4"), and
Megan Wolfe who finished eighth in the shot put (32' 11 3/4").
Shanese McGregor led the way for the women on the track by placing third in the 100-meter dash in 13.08 seconds.
Haley Miller and
Stephanie Cave added seventh-place finishes for UIndy in their respective events as Miller crossed the line in 26.39 seconds in the 200-meter dash and Cave posted a time of 18:27.04 in the 5,000-meter run.
Saidat Sanuth and
Kenya Owens rounded out the placements on the women's side with Sanuth taking eighth in the 200-meter dash (26.47) and Owens eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.05).
The track and field teams will be back in action on May 7 and 8 when they look to claim conference titles at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Missouri S&T.
