INDIANAPOLIS- UIndy senior Adam Akin made sure the Greyhounds came away with two wins at Greyhound Park Tuesday by notching four hits and four RBIs in wins of 16-1 and 12-11 against in-region Urbana.  Three of his hits went for extra bases, including an extra-inning walk-off double that clinched the sweep for Indianapolis.

GAME 1

Akin, who also scored five runs on the day, put an exclamation point on the Greyhounds game-one rout of the visiting Blue Knights (12-15) with a two-run homerun in the Hounds' final at bat in the seven-inning affair.  All nine Greyhound hitters crossed home plate, including three runs from rightfielder Chris Ulrey.  Ulrey reached base safely all four times he came to bat.

Pitching on short rest, UIndy starter Cory White had a rough beginning to his outing, but the all-region pitcher settled in to easily garner the win.  Urbana began the game with a leadoff walk and back-to-back singles to load the bases with no one out.  Undeterred, White promptly struck out the side to escape unscathed.

The Knights did manage an unearned run in the second, but that was the extent of the damage, as White allowed just one more base runner to get as far as second during the balance of his five innings of work.  He finished with a season-high 11 Ks while surrendering just three hits.

Redshirt sophomore Chris Saroff, who missed last season due to injury, made his first appearance on the mound since May of 2008, pitching a 1-2-3 sixth.

GAME 2
Game two looked like more of the same for UIndy, as the Hounds hung a six spot on the board in the bottom of the first, but Urbana had different ideas.  After taking their first lead of the day in the fourth, the Blue Knights continued to pour it on, eventually grabbing an 11-6 advantage through four and a half.

After the offense pulled the Hounds within one with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Indianapolis bullpen found its rhythm.  Junior Andy Betts fired one-and-a-third innings of hitless ball, followed by two scoreless frames from senior David Early.

With the Knights finally handcuffed, Akin and the Greyhound offense mustered just enough firepower to escape with the sweep.  The switch-hitting second baseman, who hit a homer from the left side in the first game, led off the seventh with a right-handed solo shot to knot it at 11 apiece and force extras.

In the eighth, senior Chase Kittinger coaxed a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second.  Urbana opted for the intentional walk to make a force play and possible double play easier, but Akin made the strategy moot by driving an 0-1 offering to the gap to plate Kittinger and give UIndy its 21st win of the year.

Early upped his record to 2-1 by garnering the win, while Ulrey continued to be a thorn in the Blue Knights' armor at the plate.  The senior outfielder went 7-for-7 on the day with three doubles, a triple, five ribbies and four runs scored.

UIndy (21-11) will play its next game on the green grass of Victory Field, home of the Class AAA Indianapolis Indians.  The downtown-Indy venue will host a meeting between the Greyhounds and nearby Anderson University at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.  Click here for more info.
