Track produces two All-America performances at NCAA Outdoors

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-  The University of Indianapolis' athletics season drew to a close at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.  The Greyhounds had three top 12 finishes in the opening day of the meet (Thursday) and churned out a pair of All-America performances Saturday.

THURSDAY RECAP
Craig Myers, the Great Lakes Valley Conference champion in the hammer, started the competition with an 11th-place finish with a 56.79-meter toss on his second effort.  Randall Hudi finished 12th in the men's long jump with a best of 7.11-meters.

The men's 4x100-meter relay of Jermel Kindred, Jerel Flournoy, Carl Smith, and Frederick Helm just missed the finals, but established a new school record with a time of 40.87.  Helm tied for 12th in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 10.65 in the preliminaries.  Helm concludes a decorated career that sees his name atop the school record board in the 55-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 4x200-meter relay, and 4x100-meter relay.

SATURDAY UPDATE
The three-day meet was crunched into two days after rain washed-out Friday.  UIndy picked-up its first All-America award at this year's championships when Seth Galloway finished sixth in the javelin throw Saturday morning.  The junior unleashed a 61.10-meter toss on his final attempt of the second flight.  That mark would stand up in the finals as the sixth-best effort, giving Galloway his second All-America honor after he took fifth (61.13m) last season.

In the final two events of the meet, the Greyhound relay teams put a stamp on the 2009-10 season.  The UIndy women's 4X400 squad of Deltarae Martin, Christina Carrick, Kierra Allen and Haley Miller finished third in their section, placing ninth overall.  Their time of 3:44.82 was just under a half-second away from All-America standard.

The Greyhound men did grab the All-America awards, taking seventh in their event.  Carl Smith, Jermel Kindred, Nick Brittain and Jerel Flournoy posted a 3:11.10 time in the 4X400 relay, scoring two team points and placing Indianapolis in a tie for 42nd overall in the men's team standings.
