INDIANAPOLIS- NCAA Division-I transfer and Seymour, Ind. native
Kristin Turner is set to join the University of Indianapolis women's basketball team this fall. The 5-7 guard, who comes to Indianapolis after logging a year at Oakland University, will enter her sophomore season at UIndy in 2010-11 with three years of eligibility remaining.
“We are excited to add Kristin to our 2010-2011 squad,” says Head Coach LeAnn Freeland. “I had the opportunity to watch her several times during her senior year at Seymour High School and I really liked her style of play. She played for a very good 4A team for four seasons and received great coaching while she was there. Kristin is a very skilled point guard who shoots the ball well. She brings a little more experience at the guard position and has the potential to make an immediate impact for us.”
As a four-time all-conference and all-area selection at Seymour High School, Turner finished her tenure at SHS as the school's second-leading scorer (1,347 pts). In her junior season, she averaged over 20 points, five assists and four steals per game on the way to being named an Indiana Junior All-Star. She followed that by compiling 18.0 points and 3.5 assists per contest to garner an All-State Senior Team nod from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA).
Turner averaged 9.2 minutes of playing time in 29 games at Oakland last season, helping the Golden Grizzlies to a 17-13 overall record and a 14-4 mark in Summit League play. She put up 2.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 45 percent from the field.
Turner joins a Greyhound squad that went 26-4 in 2009-10 while making its third straight trip to the NCAA D-II Tournament. The Hounds were the 2010 GLVC East Division champs last year while spending the majority of the season ranked in the top five.
