WARRENSBURG, Mo.-  The eighth-ranked UIndy volleyball team notched two wins in as many matches at the Peggy Martin Challenge Friday.  After a 25-15, 25-18, 25-22 sweep of the Academy of Arts, the Greyhounds took a four-set match from Eckerd, 25-22, 25-13, 21-25, 25-22.

MATCH ONE
UIndy made quick work of the Urban Knights (2-3), ending the match in just over an hour.  The Greyhounds hit a season-high .362 versus ART U, including a robust .469 in the second set.

The Knights jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the final game, but UIndy scored six straight behind the serve of Kristina Hefferan and eventually took a 12-11 advantage.  ART U again surged to take a late 20-16 lead, but UIndy recorded nine of the final 11 points to secure the sweep.

Junior middle Hannah Kelzer bombed on the Knights with a career-best 14 kills against zero attack errors.  Hefferan added 10 kills, Lyndsay Callahan earned 14 digs and Cheneta Morrison had 34 assists.

MATCH TWO

The Greyhounds had a harder time with Eckerd (4-2) in the second match.  After trailing 5-0 in the first set and coming back to win, Indianapolis finished the second set on a 12-3 run to go up 2-0.

The Tritons rebounded to take the third frame and extend the match.  The fourth and final set featured 10 ties, but after the scoreboard read 21-21, the Hounds scored four of the next five points – including two kills from Kourtney Crawford – to send Eckerd to the locker room with the loss.

Hefferan amassed 13 kills, seven digs, three block assists and two aces.  Kristina Kerrigan hit .370 with 11 kills, Morrison added 29 assists and Callahan had 16 digs.

The level of competition picks up tomorrow, as the Hounds (6-1) face a pair of ranked squads.  The day begins with a 1:15 PM match versus No. 20 Pittsburgh State and ends with a showdown with host-school and ninth-ranked Central Missouri at 5:45 PM.  Live stats for the second match can be seen here.
