WARRENSBURG, Mo.- The Greyhound wrestling squad finished the day with a 1-3 record at the UCM Dual Jamboree held by Central Missouri Sunday. UIndy opened the day with a win over Newman, and then fell to Fort Hays State, Nebraska-Kearney and host Central Missouri.
"Overall it was a decent day of wrestling," Head Coach Jason Warthan said. "Fort Hays, Nebraska-Kearney and Central Missouri have all been ranked in the Top 20 this year. We are right there. We need to get healthy and keep working to improve."
In the Greyhounds' 30-15 defeat of Newman, UIndy took wins in six of the ten bouts.
Ethan Harris started the UIndy scoring, taking a forfeit at 133.
Matt Irwin was second in a line of five consecutive Greyhound wins, taking a major decision, 13-1 over NU's Greg Delk.
David Lopez followed with a MD of his own, winning 16-7 over Dakota Hayes.
Newman forfeited in the 149 bout, giving the win to No. 3
Nick Walpole.
Shelby Mappes pinned his Newman opponent in the 165 match in a time of 3:59.
Taylor Scott picked up the final UIndy win in the 197 bout, besting Jacob Cole via a 10-1 major decision.
Walpole was the lone perfect Greyhound on the day, pinning all three of his opponents against Fort Hays, UNK and UCM. UIndy fell to Fort Hays State 21-18 Nebraska-Kearney 28-9 and Central Missouri 21-13.
No. 11 Nebraska-Kearney posted the lone undefeated record on the tournament, with host Central Missouri, Mary and No. 24 Fort Hays State each going 3-1 on the day.
The Greyhounds head to Wheaton College for the Pete Wilson Inviational next Saturday and Sunday.
