Hounds struggle from the floor in 66-47 loss

INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy women's basketball team suffered a 66-47 setback to Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday night at Nicoson Hall.  The Greyhounds (11-8, 6-5 GLVC) failed to reach 50 points for just the second time this year, while shooting a season-low 27 percent from the floor.

The Greyhounds started a frigid 4-for-22 (.182) from the field, allowing the Rangers (16-4, 10-2) to build a double-digit lead.

UIndy grabbed seven offensive rebounds in the first half to help relieve its shooting woes, but Parkside's 64-percent field goal percentage compounded matters.

Indianapolis managed just two field goals in the final 12-plus minutes of the half, as the Rangers earned a 39-20 halftime advantage.  The Hounds' first-half point total marked a season low.

UWP junior Jadee Rooney led the way for the visitors, sinking 7-of-8 shots, including a 4-for-4 effort from the 3-point line, to finish the first half with 18 points.

Out of the break, the Parkside lead remained relatively unchanged, but the home team's chances took a hit near the 12 minute mark.

With the Rangers already owning a size advantage in the front court, Katie Lyons, UIndy's top inside threat and only senior, picked up two quick fouls near the 12-minute mark and was forced to sit with four personals.

Nevertheless, the Hounds continued to battle.  Freshman and Wisconsin native Eliza Wortman stepped in and earned the hoop and the harm to trim it to 19.  UIndy went on to equal the Rangers' point total after the break, but was unable to cut into the sizeable halftime margin.

UIndy's field goal accuracy was its lowest in four seasons, just trumping its .254 output in a February 2007 loss at Lewis.  Freshman Katy McIntosh scored 13 points as the only Greyhound in double figures.  She shared the team lead in rebounds with Nickole Gonser, as both grabbed five boards.

Rooney was held to just two points in the second half to finish with a game-high 20.

The Greyhounds remain home to face their closet GLVC neighbor, the Pumas of Saint Joseph's College.  Tip time from Nicoson Hall Saturday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
