OWENSBORO, Ky.- Behind five goals from five different Greyhounds, the UIndy men's soccer team took its seventh-consecutive win, a 5-0 GLVC victory at Kentucky Wesleyan Sunday.
Ryan Barnett's second goal of the season put UIndy (8-2-0; 7-1-0 GLVC) ahead early. Barnett scored on a tap in off of a KWC (2-9-0; 0-8-0 GLVC) defender on a long ball into the box from
Matt Franco in just the third minute to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
A goal from
Kevin Eggert in the 25th minute put the visiting Greyhounds ahead 2-0. The UIndy sophomore tallied his second goal of the year on a toe poke under the Panther netminder from inside 10 yards.
Bobby Adkins pushed the Greyhound advantage to 3-0 with a shot from the rights side about 10 yards out.
Jason Krummen assisted on the play, in the 33rd minute.
The fourth UIndy goal came on
Casey Castle's second score of the weekend. Castle took a ball from Franco through the middle and put the Greyhounds up 4-0 in the 40th minute.
Devin Brown headed home his first collegiate goal in the 70th minute to put the Greyhounds up 5-0. Brown scored on a corner kick from
Wes Oliver.
Justin Roberts recorded the clean sheet in the goal for UIndy, making three saves in his complete game effort for his fifth shutout of the year. The Greyhounds out-shot KWC 12-4 in the game, and were awarded three corner kicks to the Panthers' zero.
UIndy returns home for a four-game stint that begins next Friday. The Greyhounds host Bellarmine Friday, with first kick slated for 7:30 p.m. from Key Stadium. Defending national champion Northern Kentucky will then visit Indianapolis Sunday.
NOTES: The seven-game winning streak UIndy is now on is the longest in programs history. The Greyhounds previously won six consecutive games between 8/25-9/8/2006 and 9/8-9/23/2007...this is the first time in program history that UIndy has won seven consecutive GLVC contests...Fourteen different Greyhounds have now scored this season, two-thirds of the 21 UIndy players to have seen minutes this season.
