OWENSBORO, Ky.- Behind a hat trick from
Kristen Conway and a two-goal performance from
Taylor Kelly, the UIndy women's soccer team picked up an 8-2 win over Kentucky Wesleyan in GLVC action Sunday.
Nicole Duncan put UIndy (7-3-0; 5-2-0 GLVC) up 1-0 just 30 seconds into the match. Duncan's team-leading sixth goal of the season came on freshman
Stacey Klene's first collegiate assist.
Another collegiate first put the Greyhounds up 2-0, with
Kara Webb scoring her first goal in a UIndy uniform. Webb made the score on an assist from
Lauren Soza in the 29th minute.
Soza scored a goal of her own on an assist from Conway about five minutes later. After a Kentucky Wesleyan goal in the 65th minute, Conway scored the first goal of her Greyhound career. Conway got an assist from
Katie Johnston on the play.
Just a few minutes later, Kelly scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from Soza to put the Greyhounds up 5-0. Kentucky Wesleyan (1-7-0; 1-7-0 GLVC) scored again in the 77th minute.
Conway added a second goal at the 81:30 mark, with an assist from Johnston, and her third just ten seconds later on an assist from
Brea Petty. Kelly would also score again, just less than a minute later, on yet another a helper from Johnston, running the final score to 8-2 in favor of the Greyhounds.
Shae Morris collected the win in the net for UIndy, making one save in 90 minutes in goal. The Greyhounds out-shot KWC 20-5 in the contest, while the Panthers took four corner kicks to UIndy's three.
UIndy returns home for the next two weekends, hosting nationally-ranked Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky next Friday and Sunday at Key Stadium.
