UIndy fell to Shorter 24-14, with Paul Beck (125), Harris (133), David Lopez (149) and Marcus Watson (184) all earning wins in the dual loss. The Greyhounds bested Tiffin 31-12. In its narrow 21-19 loss to Campbellsville, UIndy got five individual wins. Josh Kieffer (125), Harris (133), Givens (165), Dustin Parrish (174) and Evan Wooding (285) all earned wins in the loss to the host Tigers. Next up for the Greyhounds is the annual Little State tournament Dec. 2-3. Wabash will do the duty of hosting this year's Little State Tournament.

Individually, Barbosa won the 200 individual medley in 1:55.49 for a "B" cut, while Nir Posner was right behind him (2:00.47), and won the 100 breast in 58.96, followed by Posner (59.69). Kogel won the 100 fly in a "B" time of 50.21 and teamed with Barbosa, Justin Klopp and Nikolas Aresti to win the 200 free relay (1:26.23) and Klopp, Adil Assouab and Justin Rossillo to win the 800 free relay(7:02.51). Barbosa and Kogel were also together with Aviv Sela and Aaron Stevenson to win the 200 medley relay in 1:35.36. Rossillo also won the 400 IM in 4:08.99, which was a NCAA "B" cut, while Muzaffer Demirtas and Sela were 1-2 in the 200 breast in 2:09.92 and 2:10.80. The Calvin Winter Invitational is in Grand Rapids, Mich., Dec-1-3.
Football: UIndy senior receivers Ryan Forney and Joe Leach will strap on their shoulder pads one more time together, as both were named to the 2011 National Bowl roster. The National Bowl, presented by East Preps LLC, is an all-divisions football all-star game for college seniors across the nation. The second-annual event will be held Sunday, Dec. 4 at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allendale, Pa. A total of 78 college players have been named to either the “Blue Nation” or “Red Nation” roster, with Forney and Leach representing two of eight players from NCAA Division II Super Region #3. Forney wrapped up a storied career at UIndy by being named an All-GLIAC First Team performer as both a receiver and a specialist. The Crown Point, Ind., native finished first in the program's annals in career kickoff return yards (1,624), second in career receptions (187) and fourth in career receiving yards (2,400). Meanwhile, Leach amassed 99 catches for 1,196 yards and eight touchdowns in his time on campus. He capped his senior season with a three-TD game versus Ohio Dominican Nov. 12, one that included a 94-yard kickoff return. Leach, a product of Syracuse, Ind., garnered all-conference honorable mention in 2009. The Greyhound duo helped UIndy to a 7-4 record in 2011 -- its first seven-win season since 2007. Both student-athletes are GLIAC All-Academic Team members.
Men's Basketball: The UIndy men's basketball team lost a hard-fought 64-62 contest to GLIAC-foe Lake Superior State in Angus Nicoson Basketball Classic play Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds (3-1) jumped out to a 10-5 lead early, but let the Lakers back into the ballgame after that. Lake Superior State (5-1) strung together a 15-4 run to claim a six-point lead with just more than 10 minutes to play in the first half. A three-pointer from Adrian Moss on the next possession brought the Greyhound back within three, and a trey from Reece Cheatham about three minutes later tied the game. A fastbreak dunk from Mikel Brigham put UIndy back in control, 22-20. The Greyhounds didn't relinquish the lead for the rest of the half, heading into the intermission with a 26-25 lead. UIndy's defense held the Lakers to just two field goal makes in the final 10 minutes of the first stanza. The Lakers took the lead back with 15:40 to play on a jumpber by Derek Billing. Prior to taking the lead, Lake Superior State tied the ballgame twice, erasing a three-point Greyhound lead. Lake Superior rattled off seven straight unanswered points to take a 50-43 lead with 7:27 to play. A conventional three-point play from Brigham cut the Laker lead back to three, but those points were also negated by a three-ball from Billing on the next possession. A pair of jumpers from Moss brought the Greyhounds back within three, but the Lakers scoring five straight points, mixed in with a couple of Greyhound turnovers, prompted a UIndy timeout with the scoreboard reading 58-50 in favor of LSSU. The Greyhounds pulled within three with under a minute to play on a Moss three-ball and a made free throw from Brigham. A flurry of charity shots by both squads left the score at 64-62 in the Lakers' favor, and the Greyhounds with the ball. Moss skyed through the lane, but was stripped on his way up, with the ball going out of bounds off of a Greyhound, giving LSSU the ball, and essentially the 64-62 victory. Moss led UIndy with a game-high 23 points and eight assists. Brigham chipped in 19 points and 15 boards, while Cheatham had 12. Billing led the Lakers with 14 points and 10 rebounds on the day. Then on Saturday, behind a new career-high of 32 points from Adrian Moss, the UIndy men's basketball team took a 80-64 win over GLIAC-foe Northern Michigan in the final contest of the Angus Nicoson Basketball Classic. Moss put the Greyhounds (4-1) up 7-6 early, tallying the first seven UIndy points of the game on a pair of three-pointers and a free throw make three minutes into the ballgame. After taking that early lead, the Greyhounds stayed in control through the first half. UIndy never trailed, and held leads of as many as seven in the first ten minutes. The Greyhounds pulled out to a 15 point lead heading into the under-five media timeout, as UIndy put up 12 unanswered points. Coming out of the stopage, a free throw make by Miles Mitchell put the Greyhounds out front 37-21 with just more than three minutes to play. A three-ball from DeAndre Taylor on the next possession finally quenched the Northern Michigan (1-3) scoring drought. The two teams traded a few baskets, ending the half with UIndy ahead 44-30. Moss again led the Greyhounds out of the lockerroom, scoring the first four UIndy points on a jumper and a pair of free throws. A free throw by Will O'Neal with about 16 minutes to play gave the Greyhounds their largest lead of the contest at 17, pushing the score to 51-34. The Wildcats strung off eight straight points heading to the 10-minute mark to cut the Greyhound lead to six, but UIndy answered back with five unanswered points heading to the under-10 media timeout to push its lead back to 11, 63-52. A layup by O'Neal with just more than two minutes to play pushed the score to 80-61 and gave the Greyhounds their largest lead of the contest at 19. In addition to his 32 points, Moss had a game-high seven assists in the contest. Included in his career-high point total was a 14-14 performance at the line, good for the best FT shooting mark in Greyhound history. The Greyhounds host the defending NCAA Division II Champions and current #1 Bellarmine to open the GLVC portion of the schedule Thursday. Tip is slated for 7:45 from Nicoson Hall.
Women's Basketball: The Greyhound women's basketball team opened the 2011 UIndy Thanksgiving Classic with a 73-54 win versus Saginaw Valley State Friday evening at Nicoson Hall. UIndy (2-2) made it back-to-back games with at least nine 3-pointers. After sinking 9 of 14 shots from distance in last weekend's win against 3rd-ranked Michigan Tech, the Hounds drained 11 triples Friday, with three apiece coming from Kristin Turner and Kelly Walter. The Cardinals (0-3) began the game in a 2-3 zone, but it didn't take long for the Greyhounds to shoot them out of it. One two-minute span featured threes from Turner, Shelby Wall and Katy McIntosh, forcing a Saginaw timeout and a change a of plans. The Cardinal man-to-man didn't fare much better, however, as the Greyhounds continued to be effective on offense. UIndy slowly built a 34-18 lead by the break, thanks in part to a seven-minute field goal drought from the Cardinals. In fact, Saginaw Valley had a series of scoring droughts in the contest, with much of the credit going to the Greyhound defense. With senior Megan Gardner nailing a 3-pointer on the first possession of the second half, the margin continued to climb. UIndy scored the first 16 points of the final period, as the Greyhound advantage eclipsed 30 points just five minutes in. The cushion allowed the UIndy reserves to get some quality work. Eleven Greyhounds garnered at least 10 minutes of playing time, as Walter and Dajana Jovanovic each chipped in 11 points off the bench. Turner paced the team with 13 points while adding five assists and two steals. Jovanovic grabbed nine rebounds and junior Sydney Weinert had five blocks. Then on Saturday, Sydney Weinert poured in a personal-best 26 points to lead the Greyhound women's basketball (3-2) team to a 68-55 win against Northern Michigan. The contest was UIndy's second in as many days, as the Hounds cruised to a 73-54 win against Saginaw Valley State yesterday. Saturday's situation proved much different, however, as the back-to-back games combined with a scrappy opponent in Northern Michigan made for a hard-fought win. Trailing 7-6 early, the Hounds ran off 10 straight points to take control. The Wildcats went scoreless for eight-and-a-half minutes during the Greyhound run, with their top two post players, 6-foot-2 Brooke Coenen and 6-3 Courtney Lemon, each picking up two fouls in the process. UIndy pushed the lead to 14 late in the first half and led by as much as 15 early in the second, but the Wildcats hung around. NMU sank a couple 3-pointers on the UIndy 2-3 zone, helping the visitors creep within six points at the 12:25 mark. With the margin still at six midway through the second, the Greyhounds managed a five-point play to regain the momentum. Junior Kristin Turner drove the lane and got the hoop and the harm. Though she missed the ensuring free throw, Nickole Gonser swooped in for the offensive rebound, and seconds later, sophomore Katy McIntosh drained a three to make it 51-40 Hounds. NMU fought back to make it a two-possession game again when a lay-up from Wisconsin-Green Bay transfer Chelsea Lyons made it 57-51 with 4:34 left. The Wildcats managed just more field goal the rest of the way, however, as UIndy pulled away with a game-ending 11-4 run. Joining Weinert in double figures were Turner and McIntosh, with each adding 13 points. Turner supplemented her line with a game-high seven assists and four steals. UIndy continues its home stand with a pair of conference games next week. The Hounds look to keep it rolling when they open GLVC play versus Bellarmine Thursday, Dec. 1 at Nicoson Hall. The team then faces archrival Northern Kentucky Saturday, Dec. 3. Both games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Volleyball: The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 2011 NCAA Division II All-Region Teams today and UIndy had three players honored in the Midwest Region, including the AVCA Midwest Region Freshman of the Year. Also Kristina Hefferan and Kristina Kerrigan were named AVCA Division II All-Americans. This is the first career All-America honor for both players as Hefferan was selected to the second team and Kerrigan was named honorable mention. Hefferan was a First Team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference pick and Daktronics First Team All-Region after ranking 25th nationally with 4.00 kills per set. She has a .281 attack percentage and 2.46 digs per set after being named to the NCAA Tournament All-Midwest Region Team. This is the first AVCA All-Region honor for Hefferan. She had 12 kills/digs double-doubles, including each of the last five matches of the season. Hefferan's 427 kills this season ranks eighth in a single season at UIndy and she finishes her career sixth with 1,235 career kills. Kerrigan was a First Team All-GLVC pick, Daktronics Second Team All-Region and NCAA Tournament All-Midwest Region Team selection for the Greyhounds. This is her first time on the main all-region team after being named honorable mention last season. Binkerd, the GLVC Freshman of the Year, is ranked 22nd nationally with 11.09 assists per set that has helped UIndy rank 20th nationally with a .252 team attack percentage. A Third Team All-GLVC and NCAA Tournament All-Midwest Region selection, Binkerd's 1,297 assists this season is eighth in a single season and 10th in a career at UIndy.
