Men's tennis prevails in dramatic fashion, 5-4

Alex Poe fought back from a one-set deficit to win at No. 3 singles in the last match remaining to push University of Indianapolis men's tennis past Lake Superior State, 5-4, at the UIndy Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

Poe lost the first set to the Lakers' (0-1) Ryan Nelson, but then came back to win the match 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 for himself and the Greyhounds (4-1). Poe also teamed with Jeff Price to give UIndy its lone doubles win, 8-5, at the second spot.

In singles, the Greyhounds also earned victories from Trevor Cox at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), Caleb Fellers at No. 4 (6-1, 6-1) and Preston Swain at No. 6 (6-3, 6-1).

"It's good to get a quality early season win against a solid region team," head coach John Venter said.

UIndy is back in action tomorrow at 5 p.m. at the UIndy Tennis Center against Midwest Region No. 5 and nationally-ranked No. 38 Wayne State (1-0).
