INDIANAPOLIS- Kentucky Wesleyan spoiled a perfectly good Pink Zone® game Saturday by defeating the UIndy women's basketball team 77-63 at Nicoson Hall. The Greyhounds donned pink jersey while participating in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's initiative to raise breast cancer awareness.
UIndy (13-11, 8-8 GLVC) endured a 19-2 Panther run in the first half. The ladies jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead but just as quickly found itself down 20-10.
The Hounds trimmed it to three in the final minute of the half, but Kourtney Rhoads drained a three in the waning seconds to make it 40-34 Panthers at the break.
KWC (15-8, 9-7) shot nearly 60 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes, including a 6-for-8 effort from behind the arc.
UIndy pulled within two on three occasions in the second half, but could not overtake the visiting Panthers. With the score 52-50 at the nine minute mark, KWC orchestrated another big run by putting together a lethal 24-7 surge to put the game away. The Panthers led by as many as 19 before going on to the 77-63 win.
It was all Amanda Harnist in the second half, as the KWC senior scored 19 of her game-high 27 points in the latter period and finished the game 12-for-15 from the floor.
Senior
Katie Lyons led the Greyhounds with 19 points, followed by 10 each from freshmen
