LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Aided by a 65-percent field goal percentage in the first half, the UIndy women's basketball team (14-11, 9-8 GLVC) cruised to a 79-53 win at Bellarmine Monday night.
Good shot selection helped UIndy build its cushion, as the visitors shot at more than a 70-percent clip through much of the opening half.
Freshman
Shelby Wall knocked down her second 3-pointer of the night at the 11:19 mark to up the lead to double digits. Wall, who finished with a team-high 14 points Monday, knocked down four triples on the night after hitting a whopping seven in a meeting with Bellarmine last month.
With just under eight minutes left in the half, a
Chas Lecher layup pushed the margin to 20. Bellarmine (11-13, 6-10) made just four of its first 22 field goal attempts and finished the half with a lowly .167 team FG percentage.
Six Hounds had at least five points in the first 20 minutes, as the halftime score read 41-18 Indianapolis. Senior
Katie Lyons went 4-for-4 from the field and led all players with nine first-half points.
The deficit stayed at 20 or higher for the entire second half, topping out at 30 near the end.
BU junior Lauren Jones finally hit the Knights' first 3-pointer with 13-and-a-half minutes to go. Jones, who came in as the GLVC's leading scorer, finished with 17 points and seven boards.
UIndy finished with a sizeable rebounding margin, grabbing 44 boards compared to just 27 by the Knights. Coincidently, the Greyhounds' bench points also totaled 44, a sum four times higher than that of the Knights'.
Freshman Diana Jovanovic just missed her first career double-double by amassing 13 points and nine rebounds, with all nine boards coming in the second half. Lyons also finished with 13 points, as she and Jovanovic combined to shot 10-for-12 from the floor.
Sophomore
