Keltz leads Greyhounds over Lambuth and No. 6 Wayne State

DECATUR, Ala.- The Greyhound softball squad remained undefeated on the young 2011 season, taking two wins Saturday at the Charger Chillout. UIndy posted  a 10-2, five-inning win over Lambuth to start the day, before besting No. 6 Wayne State 2-0 to close out the afternoon.

UINDY 10, LAMBUTH 2 (5 inn.)

An RBI triple from Kelsey Rummel in the second inning opened UIndy (4-0) scoring. Rummel's three-bagger to right center scored Krysta Bradford, who walked. Jamie Keltz followed with a triple of her own off the bottom of the right field fence to score Rummel. Devyn Barker continued the Greyhound scoring with an RBI single to score Keltz and put UIndy up 3-0.

The Eagles loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom of the inning, with a lead-off walk and a pair of Greyhound errors. UIndy was able to get a pair of force-outs at home, but Dakota Malayer's throw from home to first was off, and enabled the first Lambuth score. The Eagles plated one more on a delayed-steal play a couple of pitches later, with Malayer's throw to Keltz going into right field.

Rummel got on via an infield single with one out in the fourth, and stole both second and third to put herself in scoring position for Keltz. The UIndy secondbaseman scored Rummel with a single up the middle. Two batters later, Jennifer DeMotte scored Keltz with the Greyhounds' third RBI triple of the ballgame.

UIndy got things going again in the fifth with runners on second and third with one out. A heads-up baserunning play by Malayer, who reached on an infield single, at third allowed Bradford to reach first on a fielder's choice to load the bases for Rummel.

A wild pitch scored Malayer, and an RBI-single through the shortstop by Rummel plated Hanebrink and Bradford. One pitch later, Keltz hit a two-run bomb to left field to blow the score open, 10-2 in favor of the Greyhounds.

Keltz finished 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Rummel was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI for the Greyhounds, who improved to 3-0 win the win. Audrey Ernst earned the win for the Greyhounds, surrendering two unearned runs on five hits. She struck out two on the day.

UINDY , NO. 6 WAYNE STATE
The Greyhound offense sparked in the third inning, with Rummel reaching second on an error by the Warrior leftfielder. Keltz then sent her second ball of the day out of the yard to put Indy up 2-0.

The two runs from the third inning would prove to be all UIndy needed, as DeMotte put together a three-hit gem in the circle. The Greyhound sophomore struck out four, and allowed just six Wayne State runners on base over the course of the contest.

UIndy closes out Charger Chillout competition tomorrow, facing off against in-region Ohio Dominican at 1 p.m. and West Alabama at 3 p.m. Both games will be broadcast again on the Prepcasts Audio Network. Click here for audio for the Ohio Dominican game, and here for the West Alabama game.
