Softball finishes 6-0 at Charger Chillout

Frost-Fisher wins 200th as Greyhound head coach

DECATUR, Ala.- The Greyhound softballers completed their first action of the year with a 6-0 showing at the Charger Chillout, hosted by Alabama-Huntsville. UIndy finished the tournament with a pair of wins Sunday, 15-1 over Ohio Dominican (5 innings) and 7-1 over West Alabama.

UINDY 15, OHIO DOMINICAN 1 (5 INN.)
The Greyhound bats were active often and early against in-region opponent Ohio Dominican, as UIndy batted around in the first two innings. UIndy put five runs on the board in the first frame, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Dakota Malayer that scored Devyn Barker, Jennifer DeMotte and Cori Eckerle.

Eight runs came across the plate for the Greyhounds in the second inning, with another RBI double coming from Malayer. Jessica Breeden followed with her first home run of the year, a three-run shot over the left-center fence. Keltz and Barker had the final big bats of the inning, with each scoring two on basehits through the left side.

Che' Hanebrink added to the Greyhound lead in the third, sending a solo home run over the left field fence. One more run was added on an RBI groundout by Barker after a Keltz triple in the fourth.

Ohio Dominican pushed across its lone run in the fifth inning to make the final score 15-1 and give Greyhound head coach Melissa Frost-Fisher her 200th win as the UIndy head coach.

Breeden and Malayer both finished with four RBI each for UIndy, while Barker added three. DeMotte  earned the win in the circle, allowing just one hit in three innings of scoreless work.

UINDY 7, WEST ALABAMA 1

Behind seven strong innings of just four-hit softball from DeMotte (5-0), the Greyhounds closed out their trip to the Charger Chillout with a 7-1 victory over West Alabama.

UIndy did most of its damage in the second inning, putting up six runs on the Lions. Malayer started things off with her third double of the day, and was brought in on a single through the left side from Hanebrink.

Krysta Bradford added two runs to the Greyhound lead with another single through the left side, and then scored on a sacrifice squeeze by Kelsey Rummel. DeMotte sent a ball up the middle to plate one more UIndy run, and Eckerle closed out the inning with an RBI groundout scoring Barker, who reached on a walk.

The Lions picked up their run in the fifth inning, where they got two of their four hits on the day. UIndy answered back in the bottom half of the inning, with Rummel leading off with an single on an infield bunt. She then stole second, and later scored on a single to left field by Barker.

DeMotte struck out nine en route to her fifth win of the season. The sophomore also led with her bat, going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.

The Greyhounds head back to Alabama next weekend, facing off in a doubleheader with North Alabama Saturday and heading to No. 9 Alabama-Hunstville for a doubledip the next day.
