Men's tennis takes three matches in 2011 opener

Alex Poe won at third singles and battled into a tiebreaker at second doubles.

The University of Indianapolis men's tennis team fell to Midwest Region No. 9 Grand Valley State, 6-3, on Saturday evening at the UIndy Tennis Center.

The Lakers (1-0) won all three doubles matches to take the early lead, 3-0, but the Greyhounds (3-1) fought back in singles.

Trevor Cox earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Philipp Claus at No. 2 singles, while Alex Poe fought from behind to win 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (14-12) at third singles. The Hounds earned another point with Michael Bradley out-lasting Josh Kazdan 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) at fifth singles.

UIndy is right back in action next weekend with more in-region action at the UIndy Tennis Center against Lake Superior State on Friday at 3 p.m. and Midwest No. 5 Wayne State on Saturday at 5 p.m.
