Greyhound Open Final Brackets
INDIANAPOLIS- The Greyhound wrestling team hosted the Greyhound Open Sunday, with eight UIndy athletes placing on the day. The three UIndy seniors,
Matt Irwin,
Keith Smith and
Nick Walpole, were also recognized at the meet.
Walpole led the way for the Greyhounds, going 4-0 en route to the 149 title. The top-seeded Walpole recoreded two pins in his first two bouts, giving him 12 on the season. He bested No. 2-seed Ryan Jahn of McKendree 4-0 in the championship bout.
David Lopez was the lone Greyhound to finish third, in the 157 bracket. Lopez went 4-1 on the way to the third-place finish, defeating Josh Ballard of McKendree in the third place match.
Jeff Weiss also placed in the 157 class, taking fifth.
Evan Wooding took took fourth at 285, going 2-2 on the day.
Kevin Gaughan also competed at 285 for the Greyhounds, taking seventh in the bracket.
Smith took sixth at 197,
Johnny Henry took eighth at 141 and
Marcus Watson took eighth at 174 to round out the UIndy placers.
The Greyhounds head to Findlay Feb. 11 for a dual meet. It is the last competition UIndy will face prior to the Super Regional 3 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Feb. 27.
