UIndy splits at Rebel Spring Games Thursday

Jamie Keltz ties the UIndy career hits record
KISSIMMEE, Fla.- No. 12 UIndy took a 4-3 win in its first game of Rebel Spring Games action today, besting in-region Tiffin. The Greyhounds (13-6-1) then fell in their second game of the day, 9-1 to No. 14 Augustana in five innings.

No. 12 UINDY 4 - TIFFIN 3
The Dragons got an early run in the bottom of the first, but would not score again until the bottom of the seventh.

UIndy plated its first three runs in the top of the fourth.  Che' Hanebrink led off the frame with a single up the middle, and moved to third on a single to the left side by Kelsey Rummel two batters later. Jamie Keltz brought both around to score on a triple that drew chalk down the leftfield line. Keltz herself would score on a passed ball a few pitches later.

Dakota Malayer put up the fourth Greyhound run, leading off the seventh with a solo homerun over the left field fence to run the score to 4-1.

Tiffin gave UIndy a bit of a scare in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs on single followed by a two-run homer over the centerfield fence with one out. A lineout to Jennifer DeMotte in the circle, followed by swinging strikeout retired the Dragons.

DeMotte earned the win to move to 8-3 on the season. The sophomore struck out nine en route to the victory. Keltz was two-for two at the plate with two RBIs, while Hanebrink and Rummel each had a pair of hits as well.

NO. 14 AUGUSTANA 9 - NO. 12 UINDY 1 (5 inn.)
The Vikings plated two in the top of the first, to which UIndy answered with a single run in the bottom of the second. Jessica Breeden, who walked, scored on a ball sent to right by Krysta Bradford.

That run would be the only one scored by the Greyhounds, however, as Augustana piled it on to take a 9-1 win in five innings.

Keltz had a bloop single over the shortstop in the bottom of the fifth, tying the career UIndy hits record.

Audrey Ernst suffered the loss, dropping to 2-1 on the season.

UIndy plays its final day of Rebel Spring Games action Friday, facing off with Wayne State at 9 a.m., followed by a rematch with Augustana at 11 a.m.

NOTES: With her three hits today, Jamie Keltz has now tied the UIndy career hits record of 200, held by Amy Strieter, who played for UIndy from 1993-96.
