Hounds take two from Maryville

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.-  The 30th-ranked UIndy baseball team (9-1, 2-0 GLVC) made it nine wins in 10 games by opening its 2011 conference slate with wins of 7-0 and 7-3 versus  Maryville at Greyhound Park Saturday.  Senior Cory Rupert (pictured) tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener.

GAME ONE
  |  box score

Rupert (3-0) threw his second complete game of the season in game one.  The Southport High School product surrendered just three hits and two walks while striking out four.  No Saint touched second base until the ninth, when Rupert faced a first-and-second, one-out situation before inducing a game-ending double play.

Offensively, Kaleb Cunningham remained red hot by going 4-for-5 at the plate.  The senior shortstop earned a pair of triples in the game, with his first three-bagger coming in the fourth inning with the bases loaded.

GAME TWO  |  box score

Game-two starter Clint Seefeldt (2-0) began his day much as Rupert did, as the Indianapolis native retied the first nine batters he faced.  The Saints (4-7, 0-2) finally got on the board in the fourth, however, plating two in the frame before adding one more an inning later.

With the scored tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, UIndy managed three tallies to make a winner of Seefeldt.  Scott Mourey and Chris Saroff smacked back-to-back RBI doubles in the inning.

Senior reliever Matt Widick allowed just one hit to earn the two-inning save.  Mourey and Aryn Ross each had two RBIs, while Cunningham and Ryan Wides both scored twice.

UIndy remains at home to host a twin bill with Missouri-St. Louis tomorrow.  First pitch from Greyhound Park is scheduled for noon.  A free audio broadcast of the games can be found here.
