Hounds earn two comeback wins Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS- The UIndy baseball team (11-1, 4-0 GLVC) remained perfect in conference play and at home with a pair of come-from-behind wins versus visiting Missouri-St. Louis Sunday, 5-2 and 2-1.  Sophomore Andrew Armour (pictured) made three game-changing plays on the day, including making a diving catch with two on and two out late in game two.

GAME ONE  |  box score

First, Armour out his stamp on game one by making a catch in leftfield and throwing a tagging runner out at the plate in the seventh inning.  The Tritons (5-7, 1-3) loaded the bases with just one out, and already plated one run on an RBI double.  UMSL third baseman Spencer Ammons thought he made good after lifting an Andy Betts offering to deep to left, but it was Armour who made the play, catching the fly ball and gunning down Andrew Recci at the plate.

Earlier, the Hounds tied the game with a single run in the fourth before tacking on four more in the fifth.  Scott Mourey had a two-run double in the latter inning, helping to the Hounds build a cushion.

Up 5-2 in the ninth, closer Chris Saroff recorded his first of two saves on the day by pitching a perfect frame.

GAME TWO

Armour one-upped himself in the capper, first with his run-saving dive in the top of the sixth inning and then by driving in the game-winning run in the bottom half.  Armour's first-pitch single to center scored Saroff from second to give the Greyhounds the 2-1 lead.

Ryan Hollenberg earned his first win of the season by pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.  Saroff again came on in the final inning for the save.  He gave up a leadoff double, his first hit allowed all season, but retired three of the next four batters to keep the Tritons off the board.

The Hounds hit the road for four more GLVC contests next weekend, starting with a doubleheader at Illinois-Springfield Saturday at 1 p.m. EDT.
