URBANA, Ohio- The No. 13 Greyhound softball team split with Urbana Friday afternoon, taking game one 6-3 before falling 4-3 to the Blue Knights.
NO. 13 UINDY 6 - URBANA 3
Host Urbana took an early lead in game one, putting up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run homerun to centerfield.
The Blue Knights (9-23-1) held a 2-0 lead until the top of the fifth, when UIndy (26-9-1) pushed four runs across to take a 4-2 lead.
Krysta Bradford sparked the offense with a two-out double to right center, and was followed on base by walks issued to both
Kelsey Rummel and
Jamie Keltz. The inning's first three runs came across on a double to left by
Che' Hanebrink. An error by the Urbana shortstop on a ball hit by
Jennifer DeMotte allowed Hanebrink to score, pushing the score to 4-2.
Urbana scored one run in the bottom of the sixth on four hits, leaving three in the inning.
UIndy scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to ice the win. Another double from Hanebrink scored the runs, with Rummel and Keltz coming across on the play. Rummel had reached on a walk, and Keltz on a single to left.
DeMotte (15-4) earned the win in the circle for UIndy, striking out 10 over her seven innings of work. Hanebrink closed out the game with five RBIs on a two-for-four performance at the plate.
URBANA 4 - NO. 13 UINDY 3
The Blue Knights edged UIndy with three runs in the bottom of the seventh in game two.
The Greyhounds struck first, scoring a pair in the top of the third. Both runs came home on a single up the middle by
Dakota Malayer, ith DeMotte and Keltz scoring on the play.
Urbana answered in its half of the third, getting back one run on two hits.
UIndy's third run came in the fifth inning, with
Cori Eckerle doubling to centerfield and scoring on an error by the Blue Knight catcher a few plays later.
The Blue Knights stole the win with three runs in the seventh on four hits. The tying runs came across on a bases-loaded double to left center, and the winning run came home on a single to left field.
Lauren Edwards (6-3) suffered the loss for UIndy. Malayer had two RBIs for the Greyhounds, while Keltz and
DeVyn Barker each had a pair of hits in the contest.
The Greyhounds head back into GLVC play Sunday, hosting Northern Kentucky at the Indiana Central Little League. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for noon.
