Wrestling signs Josh and Justin Kieffer

INDIANAPOLIS- Head Coach Jason Warthan added another two incoming freshmen to his roster for next season, with Roncalli's Josh and Justin Kieffer committing to wrestle for the Greyhounds.

"We are obviously extremely excited and fortunate to have Josh and Justin Kieffer joining the wrestling team next year," Warthan said. "They have all the qualities and skills to be successful at the collegiate level. Their work ethic and competitiveness are showcased by their many successes at Roncalli and on the national scene."

Josh Kieffer finished as the state runner-up at 125 this past season. Warthan projects that he will wrestle at 125 or 133 as a Greyhound. He never finished lower than fifth in the state, qualifying for the state meet each of his four years as a prep.

During his four years as a Rebel, Josh posted a career record of 175-15, setting a school record with his 175 career victories. He was a Team Indiana member and was named to the Indianapolis Star Super Team in 2009.

Justin Kieffer also was a four-time state qualifer as a prep. He is projected to wrestle in the 141 weight class, never finished lower than seventh in Indiana during his high school career. Justin finished third in the state at 135 this past season, closing out his year with a record of 46-1.

Overall, Justin posted a record of 171-19 at Roncalli, and was a three-time Marion County Champion, a four-time sectional champion and a one-time semi-state champion.

As a pair, the Kieffers led the Rebels to three consecutive state finals appearances. Both were named the the state wrestling coaches association's all-academic team.

"The Kieffers come from a great family and have been coached by some of the best wrestling coaches in the state," Warthan said. "That combination will no doubt make the transition to UIndy as student-athletes very smooth."

The Kieffer brothers join Aaron Stevenson, who signed in the early period. Stevenson, a two-time state finals placer that Warthan projects will be a 184 or 197-pounder, comes to UIndy from Indian Creek High School. He finished second at 189 at last season's state meet, and was third as a sophomore.
