No. 19 Greyhound softball takes sweep over Saint Joseph's

INDIANAPOLIS- It took a few extra innings, but No. 19 UIndy softball took a two-game sweep of GLVC-foe Saint Joseph's at the Indiana Central Little League Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds won 3-1 in game one, and took game two 3-2 in 10 innings behind a walk-off single by Dakota Malayer.

NO. 19 UINDY 3 - SAINT JOSEPH'S 1
UIndy took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, on a groundout to second by DeVyn Barker. The play scored Malayer, who reached on a single through the left side.

The Pumas tied the score in the top of the fifth, pushing a run across on a bases-loaded fielder's choice play.

Jamie Keltz gave the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead with a solo home run to left field with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Che' Hanebrink followed with a single up the middle, and was brought home on a double by Malayer to push the UIndy lead to 3-1.

Jennifer DeMotte earned the pitching win for the Greyhounds, improving to 18-4 with the victory. Meagan Gutierrez earned her first save of the season, striking out two in one and two-thirds innings of work.

Keltz, Malayer, Cori Eckerle and Jessica Breeden each had two hits apiece for the Greyhounds, who had 11 total hits in the game.

NO. 19 UINDY 3 - SAINT JOSEPH'S 2 (10 INNINGS)

The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, with Hanebrink starting the offense with a single up the middle with one out. Hanebrink came home on a double to left field by Malayer.

UIndy added a second run in the second, with Krysta Bradford coming around to score on a Kelsey Rummel single up the middle.

Saint Joseph's knotted the score at 2-2 with a pair of unearned scores in the top of the sixth. UIndy tried to answer back in the bottom of the frame, but stranded a pair of runners on second and third.

The score stayed tied through 10 and a half innings, until a basehit up the middle by Malayer scored DeMotte from second, giving UIndy a 3-2 win.

Audrey Ernst took the win, tossing four and one-third inning of relief work. She struck out four, walked no one and gave up no runs to improve to 4-2.

Malayer had two hits and two RBIs in the contest, while DeMotte and Rummel each also had a pair of hits in the contest.

UIndy closes out the regular season Saturday, hosting Wisconsin-Parkside in a GLVC doubleheader. First pitch from the Indiana Central Little League is slated for noon. The Greyhounds' three seniors, Keltz, Breeden and Gutierrez, will be honored at the team's annual Senior Day.
