ROMEOVILLE, Ill.- The 25th-ranked UIndy baseball team (16-6, 7-5 GLVC) earned a split at Lewis Sunday, losing game one 7-6 and taking the finale 7-5. Senior

The Greyhounds led for the first four-and-a-half innings, but a five-run fifth by the Flyers turned the tide. Trailing 4-1 heading in, Lewis (13-8, 6-4) faced three different pitchers and sent 12 batters to the plate in the frame. Four extra-bases hits, including a two-run triple, underscored the action.
UIndy managed to tie it at 6-6 the following inning, thanks to a base-loaded double from
Andrew Armour. However, an RBI single from LU leftfielder Andrew Bauer in the bottom of the sixth handed the loss to reliever
Andy Betts (0-1) and the third straight one-run loss to the Hounds.
Leadoff hitter
Matt Maringer – who has now hit in five different spots in the lineup – had two hits and scored three times, while third baseman
Chris Saroff reached base safely four times (3 hits, 1 walk) and notched two RBIs.
Ross' record-breaking double put a silver lining on the loss, as his 45th career two-bagger came in the fifth inning. The former record was shared by Todd Hottell (1987-90) and Peter Bobcock (2000-01).

The home team jumped to a 4-0 lead after two innings, chasing starter
Patrick Kraft, but the UIndy bullpen gave the offense a chance by allowing just one run over the final seven innings.
The Hounds tied it with a big third inning, with RBI singles coming from Maringer, Armour and Ross.
After Lewis retook the lead briefly with a run in the fifth, UIndy would go up for good with two tallies in the sixth.
Kyler Mason and
Ryan Wides scored the tying and winning runs, respectively.
The Greyhounds tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on a successful squeeze bunt by
Kaleb Cunningham. Reliever
Eli Linder was awarded the win, while Saroff came on in the ninth to notch his sixth save of the season.
The Flyers smacked four homeruns in the second game, though all were of the solo variety.
The Hounds return home for a midweek twin bill versus GLVC East opponent Saint Joseph's Wednesday. First pitch from Greyhound Park is scheduled for 1 p.m.
