Men's tennis handles St. Joseph's in road tilt

The University of Indianapolis men's tennis team went on the road for the first time in Great Lakes Valley Conference play to earn its first win, 8-1, over St. Joseph's on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (9-10, 1-2 GLVC) started the day by sweeping through doubles against the Pumas (12-6, 0-3 GLVC).

Christian Nikou and Pete Wilson won 8-5 at No. 1, while Jeff Price and David Schoch took an 8-3 decision at No. 2. Trevor Cox and Alex Poe completed the sweep by winning 8-2.

Cox moved up to No. 1 singles for the third time this season and fought from behind to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 over Ishan Gohil. Nikou easily dispatched of Miguel Belcina 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Poe survived a close first set and then blitzed Joseph Scott 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4.

Preston Swain won his second match of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6, while Price rounded out the scoring by defeating Joseph Bomben 7-6 (0), 3-6, 10-2 at No. 5 singles.

The Greyhounds return to Indianapolis to host Southern Indiana on Friday and Northwood on Saturday.
