2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Americans
SALEM, W.V.-
Kelsey Rummel has become just the second UIndy softball player to earn All-American status. Rummel has earned second team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American honors for the 2011 season, announced by the Association at the NCAA Banquet of Champions at the Salem Convention Center Wednesday evening.
Rummel, the UIndy thirdbaseman, held down the hot corner for the Greyhound squad for the second straight year, starting all 51 contests. The sophomore posted a batting average of .373 on the year, good for second-best on the squad. Rummel stole 19 bases on the year, also good for second on the UIndy team, including a straight swipe of homeplate against Wisconsin-Parkside Apr. 30.
A first team All-GLVC selection, as well as a Louisville Slugger/NFCA First Team All-Midwest Region selection, Rummel had 17 multi-hit contests, including a string of three games in which she hit safely in every plate appearance.
Three GLVC softball players earned 2011 NFCA All-American status, all on the second team. Joining Rummel were Quincy's Torie Bunzell and Northern Kentucky's Ashley Gates.
Rummel joins 2010 UIndy graduate
Megan Russell as the lone Greyhounds to have earned All-American status in her UIndy career. Russell was an NFCA second team All-American and a third team Daktronics All-American selection in both 2010 and 2009, and was a third team Daktronics All-American selection as a freshman. The NFCA has been naming All-Americans since the 1990 season.
