Men's tennis wins 13 at season-opening tournament

The University of Indianapolis men's tennis team opened the 2011-12 campaign at the DePauw Fall Invitational with a combined 13 wins on Saturday and Sunday.

The Hounds won seven matches in singles, including Trevor Cox, Alex Poe and Preston Swain reaching the semifinals at No. 1, 3 and 6 singles. After falling in the semis, Cox went on to defeat Matt Coomer of IU-Southeast 6-2, 6-1 to finish in third, the highest singles finish for the Greyhounds.

UIndy also went 6-3 in doubles with five combinations, led by a 2-0 finish from Cox and Poe in the back draw of No. 2 doubles, while Swain and Caleb Fellers finished in third place at No. 3 doubles with a 2-1 mark.

This was the lone tune-up for UIndy before heading to Grand Valley State for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional on Sept. 23.
