Cox reaches quarters to highlight men's tennis performance at regional

UIndy sophomore men's tennis player Trevor Cox reached the quarterfinals of the main singles draw at the 2011 USTA/ITA Division II Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Grand Valley State.

Cox started the tournament by defeating Youri Perrin of Northwood 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the 64-player draw and Nate Lattimer of Southern Indiana 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.

He came back on Saturday to defeat second-seeded Thomas Ducret of Wayne State 4-6, 7-5, (10-6) to reach the quarterfinals before his run was halted by fifth-seeded Diego Gimenez of Southern Indiana.

In the Flight B main draw, Michael Bradley made a run of his own by reaching the semifinals. He started with a come-from-behind win over Craig Martin of Tiffin 2-6, 6-1, (11-9) and then won 6-1, 6-1 in the quarters against Tiffin's Kevin Baldwin. In the semis, Grand Valley State's Zac Felice emerged victorious.

In the doubles main draw, UIndy earned a win by Matt Smith and Preston Swain over Wayne State.

The Greyhounds return to action on Oct. 1 for their first dual match at Taylor at 10 a.m.
