INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Lakes Valley Conference released its 2012 Preseason Baseball Coaches Poll Wednesday, with UIndy garnering 87 points and two first-place votes to finish third in the eight-team East Division.
Defending East-champ Southern Indiana (109 pts) edged Northern Kentucky (108) as the division favorite, while 2011 GLVC Tournament champion Quincy (114) topped the West. Both USI and Quincy received nine first-place nods. Coaches were prohibited from voting for their own team.
The top three teams from each division, as well as three wild card teams will earn berths to the 2012 GLVC Baseball Tournament May 10-13, which will be held primarily at Bosse Field in Evansville, Ind. Select opening-round contests will take place at nearby Southern Indiana Baseball Field.
The Greyhounds open their 2012 slate by hosting in-region Oakland City for a three-game series starting Friday, Mar. 2.
