Gardner, Royer named GLVC Athletes of Week

INDIANAPOLIS- A pair of Greyhounds have swept this week's GLVC Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the league Wednesday.

Robert Gardner was named the conference Track Athlete of the Week, while Matt Royer picked up his second consecutive Field Athlete of the week nod.

Gardner earned the honor after posting an NCAA provisional mark in the 400-meter dash during the weekend at Indiana's IU Relays. Gardner's time of 48.14 rankes among the the top qualifiers thus far in the indoor season.

Royer earned his second league honor in as many weeks with his first place finish in the men's weight throw at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational this weekend. His toss of 20.46 meters was good for his second NCAA qualifying mark of the year, and was also a new meet and field record at the event. He also tossed an NCAA provisional makr in the shot put, hitting 16.22 meters to take third at the meet.

This is Gardner's first GLVC Athlete of the Week selection, while Royer has been named the league's weekly honoree three times before.
