Box Score 2 DECATUR, Ala.- The Greyhound softball team opened the 2012 slate with a 2-0 day at the Charger Chillout Friday.
UINDY 2, WEST ALABAMA 0
The Greyhounds scored a single run in the third and another in the sixth to take a 2-0 win over West Alabama to open the 2012 season.
Kelsey Rummel crossed the plate in the third inning, after reaching on a bunt single. She stole second, and scored on a single to centerfield by
Casey Williamson in the next at bat.
Alexa Alfaro scored the second UIndy run, after opening the sixth inning with a triple to right. She scored on a fielder's choice by
Cori Eckerle two batters later to put the Greyhounds up 2-0.
Williamson went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI in the win, while
Jennifer DeMotte earned the win, going seven innings and fanning 11.
UINDY 4, #11 ROLLINS 2
The Greyhounds picked up their second win of the day, taking a 4-2 win over #11 Rollins.
Williamson kicked things off in the top of the first, drawing a lead off walk. A DeMotte double scored Williamson a batter later.
UIndy plated a pair of runs in the third inning, with Alfaro and
Cori Eckerle making it home. Alfaro opened the inning with a single through the left side, and moved to second on an Eckerle single.
A wild pitch moved both runners up 60 feet, and a single off the bat of
Taylor Russell a couple of batters later brought both Greyhounds around.
UIndy's final run came in the fourth inning, with Williamson again crossing the plate. The Greyhound freshman reached on an error, and was again brought home on a double from DeMotte.
Rollins put up its two runs in the fourth, on an error followed by a homerun.
DeMotte was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs, and also earned the pitching win in relief of
Audrey Ernst.
Taylor Russell also went 3-for-4 against the Tars, while Alfaro had a 2-for-3 effort at the dish, with a run scored.
The Greyhounds continue Charger Chillout play Saturday, facing off with Lander and Wayne State.
